Surrogacy

Traditional Surrogacy

Traditional surrogacy uses either the intended father’s sperm or donor sperm to artificially inseminate the surrogate mother’s egg. The surrogate is the genetic mother of the resulting child.

Gestational Surrogacy

Gestational surrogacy uses in vitro fertilization to inseminate eggs extracted from the intended mother or an egg donor. Sperm from either the intended father or a sperm donor is used to fertilize the eggs in a laboratory. The fertilized eggs are transferred to the surrogate’s uterus. Although the surrogate mother carries and gives birth to the resulting child, she is not genetically related to the child. Embryos that are not transferred may be frozen and used for transfer at a later time if the first transfer does not result in pregnancy.

If you are an infertile couple interested in pursuing the surrogacy process or if you would like to be a surrogate for another couple, please make an appointment with one of our physicians to discuss your next steps or email questions to Yvonne Hickman [yvonnehickman@kyinfertility.com].
